Science – The Family School – Year 1
The Science courses in the Family School curriculum will span a 6 year time period during which children will learn to recognize the hand of God in His creations and in the interactions of all living and non-living things on the earth. This course is designed to bring children closer to Christ as they read out of the “best books words of wisdom” (D&C 88:118). Using the principles of the gospel, children will read and evaluate literature–its themes, its characters, its plots, its style, and its settings. Geography – The Family School – Year 1
This course is designed to give children a Christ-centered view of world geography. Each year we will dive deep into the geography of a specific continent–this year we study Asia! Using the principles of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, children will master basic geographical knowledge and skills. This Ancient World History course is designed to take children through history in such a way as to reveal to them the hand and influence of God in the lives of nations, civilizations, and individuals. The history of the world is actually the history of God’s plan unfolding for the benefit of His children. It is His Story. Art – The Family School – Year 1
This year we study the art of antiquity! This art course is designed to give children a Christ-centered view of art. Using the principles of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, children will explore the visual arts. Children will create an art notebook; carry out word studies in order to derive true principles; practice the Research, Reason, Relate, Record process of learning and applying knowledge; and be introduced to great literature associated with art. Music – The Family School – Year 1
The music course is organized by the study of 1) Musical Terms, 2) Music History and Appreciation, and 3) Musical Activities. During the study of musical terms, we will “Research” through scripture and other primary sources. We will “Reason” what they mean to us. We will “Relate” those principles and discoveries to our own lives and draw conclusions as to what that means we should do.
